THOMAS |
A Bellefontaine man was charged with multiple traffic violations after three hit-skip crashes Saturday.
Vincent C. Thomas, 38, of 601 S. Detroit St., has been charged with felony failure to comply, OVI, failure to control, not using headlights and three counts each of stopping after a crash and failing to stop at a stop sign.
At 6:55 p.m., he was southbound in the 1000 block of north Main Street without his headlights on when his sport utility vehicle hit the driver’s side of Everett Patterson’s pickup truck as he drove from 1022 N. Main St.
The defendant continued at a high rate of speed as officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department converged on the area. He lost control turning from Williams Avenue onto Elm Street. The SUV skidded across and off the street four times going through several yards and striking Nehkya D. Lyburtus’ parked car at 428 N. Elm, into that yard before crossing back into another yard.
He was observed driving through a stop sign at Elm Street and Sandusky Avenue around 7 p.m., but the officer did not initiate a pursuit because of icy road conditions.
Finally at Maple Avenue between Main and Detroit Street, he crashed into a parked pickup truck registered to Benjamin A. Manbeavers.
The SUV was disabled and he took off running.
Around 8:30 p.m., he was arrested at his residence and was apparently intoxicated. He refused to provide a breathalyzer sample and was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
Damage was heavy in all three crashes.
