William D. Robson, 75, of 24205 State Route 47, West Mansfield, was charged Tuesday with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
Around 5:35 p.m., a deputy of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office was on patrol in East Liberty when Robson drove by westbound on Foundry Street.
A registration check indicated Robson, the registered owner of the car, has his driving privileges suspended. The deputy turned on the car and followed it into Perry Township Park at 10041 College St. to initiate a traffic stop. Robson did not immediately pull over when the deputy activated the cruiser’s overhead lights. Instead, he continued to drive further in the park while leaning over into the front passenger easting area.
He pulled over after the deputy sounded a siren.
Upon contact, Robson claimed he had been to Columbus for a doctor’s appointment and then stopped at a pharmacy in Marysville to pickup a prescription.
The deputy noted a strong odor of alcohol as Robson spoke. He denied consuming alcohol but he was ordered out of the car. A second deputy arrived on scene and also detected an odor alcohol on Robson.
Robson refused to participate in any testing. He was taken to the sheriff’s, processed on the OVI charge and his refusal of a breathalyzer test and then released to a sober person.
His car was towed after an inventory which found an empty 24-ounce malt beer can, an open bottle of wine and a travel mug containing wine.
A receipt with the day’s date and a time stamp at 4:46 p.m. was found in pocket of Robson’s shorts. The receipt listed the beer can and wine.
