Rebekah S. Cerwinsky, 34, of 63 McKeestown Road, Apt. B, was charged Tuesday with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, obstructing official business, resisting arrest and criminal damaging after an 8:50 p.m. traffic stop.
She allegedly drove a sport utility vehicle through a yard at 229 Meadowbrook Drive and left the scene, officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department report.
An officer responding to the complaint observed Cerwinsky’s SUV westbound on east Sandusky Avenue and followed her southbound on Main Street to observe any signs of impaired driving. A stop to investigate the criminal damaging complaint was initiated south of Lake Avenue.
Upon contact with Cerwinsky, the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol. She provide nonsensical comments regarding her actions that night.
When asked to step out of the SUV, she reportedly replied, she was “happy in her car” and began to roll up the windows. The officer opened the driver’s door but Cerwinsky grabbed the handle, pulled it shut and locked the doors. She ignored repeated orders to open the door and step out.
Another officer arrived on scene and received clearance to breakout a window to gain access. After four minutes multiple orders instructing Cerwinsky to open the door, an officer shattered the passenger side window.
The motorist was forcibly removed from the SUV and handcuffed. Officers report she was unsteady on her feet as they walked her to a cruiser.
She was transported to the Logan County Jail where she refused to provide a breathalyzer sample. She also became belligerent with staff and was placed in a restraint chair.
Officers noted Cerwinsky has a prior OVI conviction from 2016.
