Voters in Logan and Champaign counties spoke out on the drug addiction crisis impacting rural America as they markedly supported the local Mental Health Drug and Alcohol Services Board replacement levy.
The five-year, 0.7-mill levy generates nearly $1.4 million a year to fund substance abuse and mental health recovery programs in the two-county district.
The unofficial count from Tuesday’s election was 22,221 in favor of the issue and 15,378 opposed. The issue was approved by Logan County voters by a count of 12,484 to 8,035 while it passed by a margin of 9,731 to 7,343 in Champaign County.
