TRENT McINTYRE |
Triad continued to play its best baseball at the right time Friday by dominating Newton 15-0 in five innings to claim a Division IV district championship at Centerville High School.
Senior Trent McIntyre spearheaded the Cardinals’ efforts by firing a no-hitter in rainy conditions. He had nine strikeouts against the Indians.
“He did a great job battling the conditions,” said Nichols. “It was raining the whole game. It wasn’t raining hard, but it made things messy. Trent buckled down and did a good job keeping the ball down in the conditions we were playing in.”
Triad moves on to the Division IV regional semifinal at Carlton Davidson Stadium in Springfield on Thursday where the state-ranked Cardinals (23-7) will face the winner of the Lebanon district final between Miami Valley Christian Academy and Tri-County North. That game was stopped because of rain in the second inning Friday with Tri-County North winning 9-2.
