Mary Elizabeth “Bib” Stang, 91, of Bellefontaine, passed away Thursday, Feb. 7, 2019, at The Homestead at Logan Acres, surrounded by her family.
She was born Oct. 31, 1927, to the late John and Helen Naugle in Bellefontaine. She married Dr. Richard W. Stang on Oct. 20, 1951, and he survives at The Homestead.
Also surviving are four children, John Stang of Seattle, Carolyn (Bob) Johnson of Peoria, Ariz., Jane Stang of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Susan (Ty) Cole of Modesto, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Ian and Erin Cole of Modesto, Calif. She was preceded in death by her sister, JoAnn Naugle. Mary Elizabeth graduated from Bellefontaine High School in 1945.
She attended Miami University and graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a bachelor of science degree in nursing.
She was a school nurse in Bellefontaine City Schools, a homemaker and managed her husband’s optometry practice. At times, she was a volunteer nurse for the American Red Cross and taught home nursing at Indian Lake High School.
She accompanied Richard on 20 missions with the Volunteer Optometric Services for Humanity to Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Mexico, Tanzania, Ukraine, Poland and Romania.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church of Bellefontaine where she sang in the choir and performed in the bell choir. She served on the church council and once was the congregation’s vice president. She belonged to several clubs, including La Cultura, Women’s Club, Art Club and a bridge club.
Calling is from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, at Eichholtz, Daring & Sanford Funeral Home in Bellefontaine. The funeral service is at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, at First Lutheran Church in Bellefontaine.
Interment follows at Bellefontaine Cemetery.
