Mary E. Harpest, “Mama Bear” to those who knew and loved her, age 103 of Bellefontaine, passed away at her home with her daughter Rosemary by her side on Sunday, Aug. 16, 2020.
She was born in Logan County, on Sept. 9, 1917, the daughter of the late Ernest B. and Florence Dessie (Spurlock) Lyon.
On Oct. 1, 1938, she married Willis V. Harpest in Bellefontaine and he preceded her in death on Dec. 15, 1993. Also preceding her in death were two sons, Bill Harpest on March 26, 2020, and Ron Harpest on Jan. 7, 2020, two grandsons, Kerry Harpest and Larry Harpest Jr., two brothers, Fred Lyon and Roger Lyon, a sister, Ethel Davis and a son-in-law, Mike Berry.
Survivors include her children, Larry Harpest, Rosemary Harpest, Vownetta “Kookie” Berry, her grandchildren, Shannon and Shawn Harpest, Mary Harpest, and Jan (Tom) Schneumann and several nieces and nephews and a daughter in law, Patsy Harpest.
Mary enjoyed golfing, bowling, and playing cards in her younger years. She spent a lot of her time keeping her lawn and flowers nice and helping her husband in the Harpest Water Well drilling business.
She was a great lady, well respected, and love by many and she will truly be missed.
Mary has now been called home and Jesus was there with open arms to greet her at Heaven’s Gate.
Due to COVID-19, all services will be conducted privately and with burial in Zanesfield Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
The family asks that you be symptom-free and please wear a mask if attending the private services.
