Gloria Jean (Parks) Smucker, 70, of Tigard, Oregon, formerly of Logan County, died peacefully in her sleep, Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2020, of a major heart attack that occurred June 16, and later was at home under hospice care.
She was born on Aug. 21, 1949 to the late Mary Helen Overly and Russell Parks in Bellefontaine.
She married Kendal Smucker on Aug. 23, 1969, and he survives. She was preceded in death by her brother Anthony “Tony” Iannarone.
She is also survived by children Lt. Col. Kendal Jr. (Cyndi) Smucker of Fort Belvoir, Va.; Elizabeth (Mike) Donald of McLoud, Okla.; Mary (Stephen) Schleipfer of Portland, Ore.; N. Abigail (Michael) David of Englewood, Colo.; 12 grandchildren: Justin, Caitlin, Lorelei, Alison, Joshua, Kirsten, Leonardo, Rebecca, Christian, Liam, Andrew, and Marshall; and sister Belinda “Jodi”(Drexel) Vanduser of Cleveland, Texas.
She graduated from Indian Lake High School in 1967, and graduated from Lima Technical College. She and her husband attended church at First Regular Baptist in Bellefontaine, and were devoted Christians who attended churches in every area they lived. She worked at Little Learners and Noah’s Ark Preschool.
She enjoyed her children and grandchildren, reading, painting, playing the clarinet, singing and her favorite hymn was “In The Garden.” In recent years, she enjoyed traveling with a trip to Japan, a 40th anniversary trip to Hawaii, and a 50th anniversary celebration at Cannon Beach, Ore.
A gathering of family and friends will be at a later date in Bellefontaine, where she will be placed to rest at Highland Memorial Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed on Facebook to Ken Smucker.
