Marvin V. Mitchell, 94, of East Liberty, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at his residence.
Born Oct. 18, 1921, in Colorado, he was a son of the late William Victor and Ruth Naomi Garrett Mitchell. He also was preceded in death by his sisters, Helen McDowell and Jean Mitchell.
On July 31, 1948, in Rushsylvania, he married the former Flo Jean Means and she preceded him in death May 21, 2009.
Surviving are their children, John (Eileen) Mitchell of Plain City and Janet (James) Novak of Raleigh, N.C.; grandchildren, Matthew, Jonathan and Sarah Mitchell and Olivia and Jarret Novak; and a sister, Sarah Gettys of Arizona.
A graduate of Rushsylvania High School, Marvin served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed in England with the Medical Corps. He owned and operated Mitchell’s Service Station in East Liberty. Working at the station was his hobby, retiring at the age of 73 to lovingly care for his wife for the next 15 years. He was also a long-time member of the East Liberty Church of Christ where he served as an elder.
Jason Robson officiates a funeral at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 9, at the East Liberty Church of Christ. Burial next to his wife follows at the East Liberty Cemetery. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 8, at the Mannasmith-Schnurrenberger Funeral Home, 222 W. Center St., West Mansfield.
