Jason R. Collins, 37, of Marion, was charged with felony counts of theft of a motor vehicle, attempted escape and vandalism, along with misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest and criminal damage following an incident Saturday.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the residence of James Cunningham, 234 E. Harrison St., Lakeview, about 6:50 p.m. on a report of the theft of a 2010 Ford Focus.
Mr. Cunningham reported that his granddaughter’s boyfriend, Mr. Collins, had been at his residence that day and had asked to use his phone. Mr. Cunningham then observed the defendant leave his home and also heard a vehicle pull from his driveway, and soon discovered that his Ford Focus was missing.
Logan County deputies were contacted a short time later by Hardin County Sheriff’s Office deputies about an automobile crash in Hardin County involving the stolen Ford Focus.
The driver, Mr. Collins, reportedly was uncooperative with Hardin County deputies and attempted to kick at a patrol car’s windows.
He was transferred to Logan County, where he also caused issues for Logan County deputies. He also kicked the windows of a Logan County patrol car. He was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
Inmate charged after theft of commissary items

Terry L. Rhyan, 38, of 11131 Pocahontas Path, Lakeview, who is currently incarcerated in the Logan County Jail, was charged with one count of theft.
Deputies received a report Friday evening from Roger E. Stiles, 33, who previously had been incarcerated in the jail. He reported that he had stopped at the sheriff’s office to pick up commissary items he had ordered, and was told that someone had already claimed the items.
Deputies were informed that Mr. Rhyan had taken the items, and he was issued the theft charge.
Drunk driver faces multiple citations
Tiffani J. Hunter, 32, of 5330 County Road 43, DeGraff, was charged with driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs following a hit-skip crash Saturday afternoon.
Deputies responded about 5:05 p.m. to a report of a vehicle in a field in the area of county roads 43 and 11. Witnesses reported seeing the driver of the vehicle leave the scene after a second vehicle stopped to pick her up.
A traffic stop was initiated in the area with the second vehicle, and deputies located the driver of the crashed vehicle, Ms. Hunter. She displayed signs of intoxication and submitted to field sobriety tests and a urine test.
She also was cited for leaving the scene of a crash, driving under suspension, failure to control and no seat belt.
Woman lodged for disorderly conduct
Kelsey L. Harshbarger, 28, of 307 Moore St., DeGraff, was charged with disorderly conduct following an incident early Sunday morning.
Deputies responded to her address about 3:20 a.m. and spoke with her mother, who said her daughter woke her up and was argumentative.
Deputies noted that Kelsey showed signs of intoxication, and they tried to speak with her away from three children at the home. She reportedly was uncooperative with deputies and was transported to the jail.
