Tony R. Gipson, 50, of 11400 Cherokee Path, Lakeview, was charged with assault, menacing, criminal trespass, disorderly conduct and public intoxication related to an incident Monday evening.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded about 5:50 p.m. to his address on a report of a fight in progress.
When deputies arrived, they found Gipson on the front porch of 11411 Cherokee Path, and they observed that he appeared to be heavily intoxicated and that he had physical injuries that were bleeding.
When asked what happened, Gipson reportedly told deputies that he had been involved in a dispute with his neighbor, Kurt Hawkins, 48, of 13779 Eagle Path. Deputies went to the neighbor’s residence, where Hawkins informed deputies that he had been working outside and was approached by Gipson, who attempted to fight him.
Hawkins said he asked Gipson to just “go home” approximately 12 times and to stay off his property. However, Hawkins said Gipson continued to come at him in an aggressive manner, so Hawkins said he threw Gipson to the ground. He denied punching or physically striking Gipson, but noted that Gipson this has been an ongoing problem with Gipson attempting to fight his neighbors while intoxicated.
Hawkins did not report any injuries. Indian Lake EMS treated Gipson at the scene.
Gipson was placed under arrest, and en route to the Logan County Jail, he reportedly threatened to harm deputies.
ATV operator issued OVI charge
William E. Mattox, 28, of 11387 Eagle Path, Lakeview, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs related to an incident Saturday evening in the Chippewa area.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office observed him operating an all-terrain vehicle on Eagle Path near Blackhawk Path about 7 p.m., and noticed that the ATV had no front headlight, no rear taillight and no front or rear turn signals. A traffic stop was initiated.
While speaking with the operator, Mattox, deputies observed that he displayed signs of intoxication. He told deputies that he had consumed alcohol that evening, and deputies found that he had multiple suspensions on his driver’s license.
Mattox submitted to field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest. At the Logan County Jail, he consented to a breath test, with a result of 0.177. He also was cited for driving under license forfeiture suspension and operation of an all-purpose vehicle on the roadway.
• Sandra L. Brown, 52, of 8890 Township Road 239, lot 17, Lakeview, was charged with OVI during a traffic stop about 11 p.m. Saturday.
Deputies on patrol in the area of north State Route 235 near U.S. Route 33 observed Brown’s southbound vehicle approach the patrol vehicle and she reportedly failed to dim her bright headlights.
During the traffic stop, deputies observed an odor of alcohol and spoke with Brown and her passenger. Brown admitted to consuming a few beers about an hour prior.
The driver submitted to field sobriety tests, and was placed under arrest. She was transported to the jail, where she submitted to a breath test, with a result of 0.134 blood alcohol content. The defendant also was cited for failure to dim and was released to a sober driver.
• David A. Driver Jr., 45, of Marion, Mich.., was charged with OVI after deputies stopped to check on his disabled vehicle about 12:20 a.m. Saturday in the area of U.S. 33 near the Township Road 56 bridge.
When deputies stopped to check on the vehicle, they found the vehicle’s engine was running and the operator, Driver, was asleep inside the vehicle. After several attempts to wake the defendant, deputies were successful, and asked him to turn his music down and to open his vehicle door.
Inside the vehicle, deputies observed a can of beer in the center console and other cans of beer on the floorboards. Driver would not submit to field sobriety tests, and at the jail, he refused to submit to a breath or urine test. He also was cited for an open container violation.
