Andrew J. Claybaugh, 34, of Urbana, was charged with possession of drugs related to an incident late Thursday evening.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 4900 block of east State Route 274 about 11:40 p.m. in reference to a suspicious person. The caller stated that a man had tried to flag her down for a ride and that she also observed him walking near her property line.
Deputies arrived in the area and located Claybaugh, who told deputies that he had a pocket knife on his person. During a pat down search, deputies found the pocket knife and also a glass pipe. During a probable cause search of his backpack, deputies also found a variety of jewelry items, which the defendant stated belonged to his grandmother, who had just passed away.
Deputies also found that Claybaugh had three active warrants for his arrest through Logan, Champaign and Warren counties. He was transported to the Logan County Jail, where the defendant admitted to deputies and a corrections officer that he had a small baggie of suspected methamphetamine on his person.
The suspected meth was recovered, along with several burnt marijuana roaches.
Deputies also seized the jewelry until ownership of the items can be confirmed. The jewelry was found in a jewelry box that lists a Mt. Victory resident’s name. Deputies were following up with Hardin County deputies regarding the jewelry.
