Benjamin Logan High School teachers Joslin Lee, Jodie Kavanagh, Michael Kettler, and Brooke Tuttle continue graduate coursework to obtain additional qualifications to teach college courses under the College Credit Plus program.
House Bill 166 allocated up to $3,000,000 for grants in October of 2019 to support graduate coursework for high school teachers to receive credentialing to teach College Credit Plus courses in a high school setting.
The Midwest Regional Educational Service Center received over 10 percent of the entire state allocation. Through the ESC, Benjamin Logan received a total grant fund allocation of $38,798 to assist BL teachers with tuition through the summer of 2021. The goal of the grant is to have as many teachers credentialed as possible.
Current CCP courses offered at BLHS include: Introduction to Biological Sciences, Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology/Lab, Calculus I, Elementary Statistics, College Algebra, Elementary Spanish II, Intermediate Spanish I and II, College Writing I, Literature Appreciation, Principles of Speech, Intro to Sociology, Computer Concepts and Applications and Intro Programming.
Ohio’s College Credit Plus can help students earn college and high school credits at the same time by taking college courses from community colleges or universities. The purpose of this program is to promote rigorous academic pursuits and to provide a wide variety of options to college-ready students.
Taking a college course from a public college or university College Credit Plus is free.
That means no cost for tuition, books or fees for students who attend public school in the state of Ohio. For those attending a private college or are homeschooled, they may incur limited costs.
