Christopher L. Compton, 27, of 4000 Alpine Parkway, lot A2, Zanesfield, was charged with theft Wednesday and was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded about 1:35 p.m. Wednesday to the Zanesfield Post Office to speak with Jonathan Carter of Marysville.
Carter said about 10 a.m. that day, a male suspect was observed stealing all four center hub caps from Carter’s vehicle that was parked next to the post office building. He provided a description of the suspect and his vehicle, and said the man left behind his screw driver.
Later that evening, deputies located the suspect’s vehicle, which was registered to Compton, at the defendant’s address.
While speaking with deputies, Compton at first said taking the hub caps was a joke and that he thought it was his friend’s vehicle. However, he later changed his story, stating that the vehicle he stole the hub caps from matched the description of a vehicle that he claimed had cut him off in traffic a few weeks ago.
He was placed under arrest.
