Kevin S. Carter Jr., 39, of 400 Lincoln Blvd., apt. 9, Russells Point, was charged Sunday with domestic violence and aggravated menacing.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office received a report Saturday from several members of Carter’s family, stating that they have been having issues with the defendant since he was released from prison. They said Carter made child molestation accusations against one of the family members, stating that “spirit voices” had told him about the incidents.
The family members told deputies that Carter also has threatened to harm them.
Sunday, deputies also spoke with another member of his family, who said she also has received threats on more than one occasion from the defendant about having her “head split open.”
Deputies and an officer of the Russells Point Police Department responded to Carter’s residence Sunday, and he denied making any threats. He was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
Possession of drugs charge filed
Shawn F. Stevens, 24, of Belle Center, was charged with internal possession of drugs relating to an incident Saturday morning.
Deputies were dispatched to 7033 State Route 273, Belle Center, about 6:30 a.m. on a report of a man who was suspected to have taken methamphetamine.
Upon arrival, Stevens’ mother told deputies that her son had woken up everyone at the home and was acting crazy, claiming to see people outside the home.
While speaking with Stevens, deputies observed that his eyes were constricted and he had rapid speech and difficulty focusing on the conversation. He told deputies he had used methamphetamine about four to five days ago. The defendant was placed under arrest and lodged in the jail.
Campground crash leads to OVI charge
Denver L. Berry, 47, of Oakridge, Tenn., was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs related to a non-injury crash Sunday at A & E Campground, 3299 State Route 540.
Deputies report Berry was operating an eastbound 2009 Toyota Prius about 11:30 p.m. inside the campground in the area of lot 51 when he drove off the main road to the left, striking a parked and unoccupied 2006 Dodge Ram owned by Jacob Walters of Bellefontaine. The impact of the crash caused the Walters vehicle to be pushed into a third vehicle, which was parked and unoccupied, a 2002 Ford F-250 owned by Zachary Deskins of Milford Center.
Damage was light to each of the vehicles, deputies said.
While speaking with Berry, deputies observed that he displayed signs of intoxication. He said he’d consumed a few alcoholic drinks earlier in the evening. He submitted to field sobriety tests and was transported to the jail, where he also submitted to a urine test, with results pending.
Injury crashes reported during winter weather conditions
Shaylene J. Jordan, 21, of Belle Center, was transported by Tri-Valley EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of non-incapacitating injuries sustained in a crash Friday morning.
Deputies report she was operating an eastbound 2016 Chevrolet Cruze on U.S. Route 33 near County Road 5 about 9:20 a.m. during snowy conditions when she drove off the left side of the road, struck a drainage ditch and the vehicle overturned.
The driver was wearing her seat belt, and no citations were listed with the report. Damage was heavy to the car.
• Kara L. Newland, 23, of Marysville, was transported by Perry Township EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of non-incapacitating injuries sustained in a crash Friday morning during winter weather conditions.
Deputies report she was operating a westbound 2010 Honda Civic on U.S. 33 near State Route 347 about 8:50 a.m. . when she lost control after passing an uninvolved vehicle and went off the right side of the road, striking a tree.
Damage was heavy to her car, which was towed from the scene. The driver was wearing her seat belt and no citations were issued.
• Chance M. Coil, 23, of Raymond, was cited for failure to control related to a non-injury crash Saturday morning in Quincy.
Deputies report he was operating a southbound 1999 Dodge Ram on Carlisle Street about 9:25 a.m. and failed to control, driving off the right side of the road, striking a concrete fence and a tree. Damage was heavy to the pickup. The driver was wearing his seat belt.
• Micah J. Anderson, 20, of Bellefontaine, did not report any injuries following a rollover crash Sunday evening on Township Road 110.
Deputies report he was operating a southbound 2006 Honda CR-V at 7:20 p.m. near State Route 273 when he went off the west side of the road during snowy conditions, overcorrected and spun out. The vehicle then went off the east side of the road and overturned, coming to a rest on its side. No citations were listed, and the driver was wearing his seat belt.
