Roger Collett, 56, of 320 Kennedy St., Bellefontaine, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and possession of drugs related to an incident in West Liberty just after midnight Friday morning.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded to a suspicious person report in the 100 block of south Detroit Street.
Collett was located by his parked vehicle. Deputies noted that they also had dealt with the defendant the previous evening in West Liberty, when they responded to a report of him knocking on doors in the area around 3 or 4 a.m.
Collett told deputies that he had arrived back in the area after traveling to Kentucky. He mentioned during their conversation that he had a gun in his vehicle.
Deputies asked him if he had a concealed carry permit, and he told deputies that he did not. The firearm was seized by deputies from the driver’s seat and center console.
Between the magazine removed from the firearm and a box of ammunition found in the vehicle, deputies recovered 40 rounds in total.
Collett was patted down for officer safety, and deputies located a large amount of cash on his person, with the defendant stating that he “doesn’t trust banks.”
Witnesses told deputies that the man had appeared confused and that he had been circling the area in his vehicle and been outside the businesses for several hours.
He was placed under arrest and transported to the Logan County Jail. While being processed by corrections staff, several hydroxyzine pills were found in his pocket.
• Brian A. Hill, 38, of 7165 Hancock Drive, Apt. 4, Russells Point, was charged with illegal conveyance of drugs into a detention facility and violating a civil protection order.
Deputies responded to his residence about 10:30 a.m. Thursday to serve the civil protection order, which specified that Hill must surrender all firearms and ammunition to the law enforcement officers.
He claimed he did not have a firearm at the property anymore and he was placed under arrest. At the jail, corrections officers located suspect marijuana inside his pocket.
Domestic violence charges filed
Justin A. Elden, 29, of 4000 Alpine Parkway, lot K1, Zanesfield, was charged with domestic violence related to an incident Thursday evening.
Deputies responded about 8 p.m. to the parking lot of Goshen Friends Church to speak with Elden’s live-in girlfriend.
She told deputies that Elden had thrown a bowl of coleslaw and her and also hit her in the head with the broom. She said she defended herself by punching him in the face.
The defendant then allegedly began pushing her in attempt to get her to leave and in the process, he pushed down her 1-year-old son. Three other young children were also at home at the time of the confrontation.
Deputies said the girlfriend had sustained a mark and bruising to her shoulder.
Deputies responded to the Alpine Parkway residence to speak with Elden. He told deputies he had thrown the bowl of coleslaw near her, but had not intended to hit her and also that he “accidentally” hit her with the broom. He was placed under arrest and transported to the jail.
