Cody B. Scherer, 23, of 213 Plumvalley St., Bellefontaine, was charged with felonious assault and domestic violence following an incident early Sunday morning involving a knife.
Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department responded to his address about 3:20 a.m. on a report of a domestic dispute. Dispatchers advised that the defendant had thrown a knife through the front window and was trying to get inside the residence.
When officers arrived, the observed the broken window and that Mr. Scherer’s index finger was bleeding profusely. At first, he alleged that his live-in girlfriend, Keila Lyburtus, had cut him, but later recanted his story.
Ms. Lyburtus said an argument had started between them while they were at the Pink House earlier that night. When they arrived home, she reportedly threw his clothes out of a vehicle in the driveway and then locked him out of the residence.
The defendant then allegedly tried to get inside the home by kicking, punching and yelling from outside. Ms. Lyburtus said he threw the knife through the front window, and she nearly was struck by it.
Bellefontaine EMS responded to the scene, but Mr. Scherer refused medical treatment. Officers located the 8- to 12-inch long knife involved in the incident.
The defendant was transported to the Logan County Jail.
Men charged with OVI
Justin M. Baughman, 24, of 231 E. Highland St., Apt. B8, West Mansfield, was arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs and was cited for failure to stop at a stop sign after a 2:45 a.m. traffic stop in the city.
Officers began following the vehicle on north Main Street near U.S. Route 33 after noticing erratic driving. The driver reportedly failed to come to a complete stop while turning left from Northview Drive onto State Route 47 and the vehicle was stopped in the 2000 block of S.R. 47.
Field sobriety tests were administered before Mr. Baughman was placed under arrest and taken to the police department where a breath test indicated a 0.102 blood alcohol content. He was released to a sober driver.
• Tyler M. Watkins, 23, of 501 Gunntown Road, Lot 98, was arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs and was cited for failure to drive in marked lanes after a 1:20 a.m. Friday traffic stop at Kent Drive and Wright Street.
Officers saw him cross the center line after leaving the 68 Grill, 1141 S. Main St. He was given field sobriety tests and taken to the police department where he twice tested 0.18 blood alcohol content. He was released to his mother.
Warrant served
• Jamey L. Rollins, 45, of 217 N. Detroit St., was arrested for a failure to appear warrant and charged with driving under suspension and expired registration after a 6:30 p.m. Friday traffic stop at Detroit Street and Williams Avenue.
• Dustin M. Hall, 28, of 215 S. Park St., was issued a warrant for theft from the elderly or disabled while at the Logan County Jail on Saturday.
• Lisa Billings, 48, of 116 N. Elm St., was arrested about 3:10 p.m. Friday on a Champaign County warrant for failure to appear in court.
• Donald I. Tevis, 22, of 513 Cooper Ave., was arrested Wednesday evening on a failure to appear warrant from Bellefontaine Municipal Court.
Disorderly men arrested

Officers arrested Eric J.S. Brown, 23, of 1600 S. Detroit St., Apt. 42, for persistent disorderly conduct after responding to an incident at his Lamplight Court residence at 3:23 p.m. Sunday.
He reportedly threatened to harm or kill others at the apartment complex for stealing from him. He told officers he had gotten drunk the night before, passed out outside his apartment and when he awoke all his money was missing from his pockets. He refused to calm down while speaking with officers.
• Franklin J. Barnes, 35, of 212 Pearce Ave., was charged with criminal trespassing, disorderly conduct and public intoxication after a 1 a.m. Saturday incident at the Pink House, 600 Jay Ave.
Mr. Barnes reportedly had been asked to leave and not to frequent the bar on Friday, but returned highly intoxicated and making trouble with patrons outside the establishment.
He was taken to the Logan County Jail.
