Christopher J. Lowe, 24, of 8319 Indian Drive, Lewistown, was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and two counts of criminal damaging Saturday after he reportedly crashed a vehicle that he used without permission from the owner.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded about 1:55 a.m. Saturday to 231 Highland St., West Mansfield, to speak with Jessica L. Slayback, 21, of Huntsville.
She reported that she and Mr. Lowe had been out with friends that evening. He reportedly had asked for the keys to her vehicle so he could retrieve something. However, she then observed him drive off in her vehicle and he would not answer her phone calls.
Deputies learned that a short time later, he was involved in a hit-skip crash on State Route 47 just west of Township Road 230. He reportedly was operating the westbound vehicle toward Bellefontaine when he drove off the right side of the road and struck a mailbox, causing heavy damage to the vehicle.
Saturday evening, deputies spoke with Mr. Lowe, who reportedly was not injured in the crash. He also was cited for driving under suspension, failure to control and leaving the scene of a crash, and was transported to the Logan County Jail.
Drunk driver crashes into creek
Kelsey Harshbarger, 29, of 202 Koke St., DeGraff, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs following an incident about 1:10 a.m. Sunday.
Deputies responded to a report of a vehicle that was stuck in a creek in the area of 3900 south County Road 31, DeGraff. She reportedly had been operating the vehicle when she drove off the road and into a field for about a half-mile, and then went into the creek.
When they arrived at the scene, deputies spoke with Ms. Harshbarger, who at first refused to get out of her vehicle, which was still in the creek bed. Deputies observed that she displayed signs of intoxication, and she refused to take field sobriety tests or a blood alcohol content test.
She was transported to the jail, and also was cited for driving under suspension.
Woman issued summons for assault
Stacy Zachariah, 40, of 201 Clermont Ave., Russells Point, was issued a summons for assault following an incident early Sunday morning at Captain’s Point, 305 E. Harrison Ave., Lakeview.
Deputies responded to the bar about 1:40 a.m. in reference to an assault. They spoke with Jennifer L. Monroe, 36, of Lakeview, who said she had entered the bar with a friend, who then noticed his estranged wife and left the establishment.
His estranged wife, Ms. Zachariah, reportedly exchanged words with Ms. Monroe, and then allegedly struck Ms. Monroe in the face with a beer bottle. Deputies observed redness and slight swelling under Ms. Monroe’s eye.
The defendant said she had “lightly touched” Ms. Monroe on the cheek with the bottle. She was issued the summons.
