Indian Lake Elementary School’s Summer Reading Program kicked off recently with a carnival-themed assembly.
Reading Gurus “Fisherwoman Frieda” and “Eartha Worm” encouraged the students to read fiction (not real) books this summer. Frieda wore a clown costume that Eartha brought for her and the entire audience wore red clown noses to remind them to keep their nose in a book all summer.
Special appearances by favorite characters Captain Underpants, Junie B. Jones and more helped the kids get excited about summer reading. Students got to choose three books to take home, sponsored by the ILES PTO.
If students fill out the reading log and take it back to school in the fall, they get to participate in a special carnival just for them.
Each year Indian Lake Elementary gives students incentives to read in the summer so they do not lose important skills during the break from school.
