A city man allegedly violated terms of his probation Thursday, Dec. 8, and attacked his estranged wife, officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department report.
Stacy R. Shirk, 66, of 1126 Allison Road, was charged with felony counts of domestic violence and felonious assault. He also had consumed alcohol in violation of his probation.
Arleen Shirk told officers she came home from work around 3:30 p.m. and discovered her husband posting derogatory comments about their daughter on social media on a cellular phone. She told officers the phone is in her name so she took it from the suspect.
He became enraged, grabbed her by the hair and threw her to the floor. He then allegedly stood over her, grabbed her by her head and hair and shook her around, ripping hair from her head.
The suspect denied touching the victim and consuming alcohol.
He was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
Officers took photographs of the victim’s injuries and recovered tuffs of her hair from the scene.
Traffic stop results in OVI charge
Zachary P. Yerington, 26, of Columbus, was charged with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs after a 2:25 a.m. traffic stop Sunday, Dec. 11.
An officer on patrol observed an eastbound sport utility vehicle traveling faster than the posted 25-mph limit on Sandusky Avenue at Madriver Street. The vehicle also traveled into the westbound lanes as it passed the intersection.
The officer activated his overhead lights and pursued after the SUV. Yerington did not stop until after passing Speedway, 600 E. Sandusky Ave.
Upon contact with Yerington, the officer noted an odor of alcohol. Field sobriety tests indicated he was under the influence of alcohol. He submitted a breathalyzer sample of 0.119.
Driver hit Amish wagon
Kevin C. Stanton, 47, of Rushsylvania, was issued a traffic citation for failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead after a 2:55 p.m. crash Thursday, Dec. 8, involving Amish brothers on a horse and wagon.
Enos K. Wagler, 22, of DeGraff, was operating the horse-drawn vehicle eastbound on Sandusky Avenue near Springhill Street when it was hit from behind by a car operated by Stanton.
The wagon was overturned, throwing Wagler and his passenger, Sam K. Wagler, 19, also of DeGraff, to the pavement. Both sustained scrapes but did not require medical attention.
Damage was heavy to the wagon and moderate to the car.
Officers observes woman take bag of ice
Latosha Y. Jefferson, 39, of 432 N. Main St., was charged Friday, Dec. 9, with theft after an officer observed her take a bag of ice from a cooler at Dollar General, 308 N. Main St.
The officer reports he was northbound on Main shortly before 6:20 a.m., a time when the business is closed.
The officer pulled off of Main and observed Jefferson drive from the store to her residence.
She was issued a summons.
