Alan L. Smith, 35, of 320 Sandra Drive, DeGraff, was charged with domestic violence related to an incident Sunday evening.
Deputies responded to the residence about 8 p.m. on a report of a domestic dispute between Smith and his estranged wife, Mindy Smith, 38, of Bellefontaine.
A verbal altercation reportedly occurred between the pair, and then the defendant allegedly grabbed Mrs. Smith by the throat. She then reportedly slapped him in the face, and he then slapped her in the face.
She left with her child to avoid further conflict, and he was placed under arrest and transported to the jail, deputies report.

Lisa R. Little, 57, of Marysville, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs related to a traffic stop Saturday evening on U.S. Route 33 in the area of County Road 57.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office on patrol in the area about 10 p.m. observed her vehicle make marked lanes violations and initiated the stop.
Deputies observed an odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle, and Little admitted to consuming an alcoholic beverage that evening. She submitted to field sobriety tests and was transported to the jail, where she tested 0.092 blood alcohol content for a breath test.
She also was issued a marked lanes violation and was released to a sober party.
• Ezra W. Naylor, 18, of 14023 Apple Ave., Lakeview, was issued a summons for possession of drugs as a result of a traffic stop about 9:50 p.m. Friday.
Deputies on patrol in the area of State Route 273 and County Road 97 observed his vehicle without a front license plate and initiated a stop.
While speaking with the driver, deputies observed an odor of marijuana. Naylor said he had smoked marijuana in the vehicle earlier in the day, but that there was no longer any marijuana in the vehicle.
During a search of the vehicle, deputies located suspected marijuana paraphernalia, a container with suspected marijuana residue and a single prescription pill, which the teen admitted he had taken from his father.
The driver was determined to not be under the influence, and he was issued the summons and released.
• Peter J. Kenton, 44, of Urbana, was issued a summons for an open container in a motor vehicle and was cited for speed during a traffic stop about 8:30 p.m. Friday.
Deputies report the defendant was stopped for a speed violation in the area of U.S. Route 68 and State Route 638. An odor of alcoholic beverage was observed coming from the vehicle, and Kenton admitted to consuming an alcoholic beverage and the empty bottle was observed in the vehicle.
He submitted to field sobriety tests, and was not found to be under the influence. He was issued the summons and released.
