Keith M. Kittel, 51, of Russia, Ohio, was charged with aggravated menacing following an incident in Huntsville Saturday afternoon.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched about 2:50 p.m. to Desperado’s, 6857 Lima St., Huntsville, related to a fight between two men, possibly involving a firearm.
While en route, deputies were advised that two men were leaving the scene and they were unable to immediately locate them. However, witnesses reported to deputies a physical fight between the two men and they said one of the men pulled a gun from his waistband.
Kittel contacted dispatchers around 5 p.m., stating that there had been an altercation between he and Rodney Messer, 40, of Kettlersville. He responded to the sheriff’s office to speak with deputies.
The defendant told deputies that Messer had been causing problems that day and had been intoxicated. He reportedly started walking toward Kittel, stating that he had a gun. Kittel said he pulled out his gun in self-defense and Messer tackled him to the ground, so the gun fell out of his hand. He said someone then threw the gun away from he and Messer.
Kittel was lodged in the Logan County Jail. A warrant has been requested for Messer on a charge of assault.
OVI charge filed following beach incident
James R. Parish, 52, of 250 Midway, Lakeview, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs as a result of an incident Sunday evening.
The owner of the vehicle, Bryan K. Truett, 49, of Cincinnati, also was cited for wrongful entrustment of a motor vehicle during the traffic stop.
Deputies were dispatched about 5:30 p.m. to the area of Oldfield Beach in reference to a fight. A witness said the suspects then got into a vehicle and left the beach area.
Deputies located their vehicle nearby and conducted the traffic stop, noting that there were three individuals in the vehicle. The occupants said there had been an argument, but it had not been physical.
The driver, Parish, reportedly showed signs of intoxication and told deputies he had been drinking alcohol earlier in the day. He submitted to field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest.
At the jail, he submitted to a breath test, with a result of 0.187 blood alcohol content and he was released to a sober person.
Driver cited in hit-skip crash
Joshua A. Artis, 39, of Bellefontaine, was cited for failure to control related to a previously reported hit-skip crash that occurred Aug. 9 in the 900 block of east Township Road 190.
Deputies report Artis was operating a westbound sport utility vehicle about 7:30 p.m. when he went off the south side of the road, striking a Logan County Electric Cooperative utility pole and then traveled through a bean field. The vehicle then came back onto the road and off the north side into a ditch, and then left the scene.
Deputies recovered possible paint from the vehicle at the scene, along with a piece of the vehicle’s headlight.
The suspect vehicle was located at 317 Lawrence St., Bellefontaine. The vehicle owner provided deputies with Artis’ name as the individual who was driving the vehicle.
Deputies spoke with Artis, who reportedly that he was operating the vehicle at the time of the crash.
• Ashia R. Rowe, 24, of Smithville, was cited for failure to control related to a non-injury crash Saturday morning.
Deputies report she was operating a northbound car on Township Road 187 about 9:05 a.m. when she drove off the left side of the road and side-swiped a utility pole. Damage was heavy to the car, which was towed from the scene.
The driver was not wearing her seat belt, according to the crash report.
