The West Liberty Lions Club is making preparations for the 55th annual Labor Day Celebration, which kicks off Saturday, Sept. 5, and continues through Monday, Sept. 7, at Lions Club Park.
To promote safety during the COVID-19 pandemic, organizers said all attendees will be required to follow state and local health department requirements in effect at the time of the event, including maintaining 6 feet of social distancing and wearing face coverings in public places.
For concerts offered throughout the weekend, all entertainment will be on the main stage and guests are asked to take their own lawn chairs and/or blankets to promote social distancing.
The tractor preview, previously known as the festival’s parade, begins at noon Saturday, Sept. 5. Registration for tractor exhibitors begins at 10:30 a.m. next to Holdren Brothers in Hostetler’s Garage. This year, organizers are asking exhibitors not to throw candy during the tractor preview.
Also at noon Saturday, a classic car cruise-in is planned, with online pre-registration required at www.westlibertylions.org.
Afternoon entertainment for Saturday includes Dulcimers at 1 p.m., the West Liberty-Salem band at 4 p.m., and West Liberty-Salem show choir at 4:30 p.m.
An evening concert features openers Honey Compass at 6 p.m. and Little Texas at 8 p.m., presented by LeVan’s Excavating. Saturday’s entertainment also is sponsored by Peoples Savings and Loan Company.
Sunday evening, Shine FM and ColePak present a concert with national Christian recording artist Ryan Stevenson at 8 p.m. Local Christian artist Shannon Reames also performs at 5 p.m., followed by a community church service at 6 p.m.
The weekend concerts are free to the public, but donations are encouraged.
Also on Sunday, an adult softball tournament is slated for 11 a.m., volleyball tournament at 1 p.m., along with a student wiffle ball tournament, with the start time to be determined.
Monday’s activities include softball games all day, a kiddie tractor pull at 10 a.m., Buckeye Outlaw Kart Racing at 11 a.m. and a golf cart drawing at 5 p.m.
Throughout the weekend, there will be duck races offered by the West Liberty-Salem cheerleaders, dunk tank by the West Liberty-Salem Athletics, flea market, craft tent and more than 18 food vendors.
A secure petting zoo, pony rides, barrel train rides and the West Liberty Splash Pad will be open for children.
