Aaron M. Mertz, 37, at large, was charged Saturday with criminal trespassing and theft.
He was spotted on a surveillance video stealing a snow plow blade, car ramps and a jack stand from a garage at 601 Plumvalley St.
He then convinced his father to help him scrap the metal items.
Around 7:50 p.m., an officer observed him driving and stopped the suspect in the 400 block of east Chillicothe Avenue.
He was arrested and lodged in the jail.
Motorist lodged on OVI
Jarod R. Klofta, 30, of Lima, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, endangering children and having an open container of alcohol after a 7:35 p.m. Sunday outside the police department.
He arrived at the department in a tow truck with his girlfriend and her six-year-old son to report abuse to the child caused by a named suspect. The child was not in a booster seat, police report.
Mr. Klofta was sitting in the truck’s driver’s seat when an officer met with him in the parking lot. He was asked to step out of the truck and he reached for an open bottle of beer.
He admitted to drinking nine beers that day.
His girlfriend claimed she had driven, but her son said otherwise.
Officers reported visible signs of impairment including slurred speech and unsteadiness while standing. The motorist would not submit to field sobriety tests nor a breathalyzer.
He was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
Driver faces charge
Tyler R. Leas, 27, of 5534 S. U.S. Route 68, West Liberty, was charged Thursday with possession of drug paraphernalia and was cited for driving under suspension and unauthorized plates.
He was spotted driving around 3:05 p.m. by an officer who recognized him and knew he was under suspension.
He was stopped in the 100 block of Fountain Place.
A straw with white residue and a pill shaver designed to make pills into powder were found in the vehicle.
