VANDALIA — There is something about the big stage of the Division I sectional boys basketball tournament that brings out the best in Bellefontaine.
The 11th-seeded Chiefs, who upset Northmont in the first round last year, trampled 13th-seeded Beavercreek 69-40 in a sectional opener Friday night at the Vandalia Butler Student Activity Center.
It was the most lopsided loss of the season for the Beavers (9-14).
A member of the Greater Western Ohio Conference National East division, Beavercreek owned a win over state-ranked Springfield.
“It feels great,” said Bellefontaine junior center Spencer George, who scored 19 points in his second game back after missing 10 games with a wrist injury. “It is nice to be back and to be able to help my teammates. We worked really hard in practice this week and our coaches had a great game plan for us.”
