Credit card utility payments to be accepted
The lone bid to replace a problematic water line beneath south Main Street came in considerably higher than expected, while a bid to pave 50 city streets came in right on target, Bellefontaine City Council members learned Tuesday.
LeVan’s Excavating, the lone bidder for a project to replace 2,600 feet of 12-inch water main between Spring and Fair avenues, submitted a bid of $511,000, compared to the $425,000 estimate City Engineer Tim Notestine presented to council earlier this month.
Mr. Notestine said he and other city officials will have to determine whether they wish to scale back the project or ask council to approve the higher-than-expected bid.
The project includes replacing a cast iron water main that is likely more than 100 years old. Mr. Notestine said there have been at least seven ruptures along that stretch of water main in the past year.
