Recipients of Lucy Brown classroom grants addressed more than 40 members of the Logan County Retired Teachers at a dinner meeting last month at the Bellefontaine First United Methodist Church and explained how the funds have been used in their classrooms.
Rebekah Troyer, a West Lerty-Salem Elementary School teacher; Marie Baughman, Riverside Elementary; Donna Brunner, Bellefontaine Elementary; and Melissa Printz, Calvary Christian School, were award winners in the inaugural year of the presentation, along with Jana Core, Indian Lake Middle School; and Barb Kuck, Benjamin Logan Elementary, each of whom could not attend.
Emerson Brown, president of the group, awarded six $250 grants in memory of his late wife, a former elementary teacher.
Brown plans to make the grants available next year also.
The money provided for alternative seating, science equipment and new library books, among other uses.
Dr. Robin Rayfield, executive director of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association, B.J. Woodruff, former ORTA representative; and Ralph Moon, new ORTA representative spoke about the association, and Josephine and Jillian Davis, harpists, provided entertainment.
Any retired educator is welcome to join the group, which meets again June 21.
