Thirty-one local children have been working hard all week on the Holland Theatre stage to prepare a lively version of Beauty and the Beast.
The youths present the one-hour musical at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 15, and at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 16.
“The kids have had so much fun this week,” said Kris Swisher of Windmill Productions. “They can’t wait to present this fun show.”
Windmill Productions, the community theater group based at the Holland, is working alongside Compass Creative Dramatics to offer this intensive week-long theater experience to children entering grades one through six.
Based in Chicago, Compass supplies educators/directors, costumes, sets, and the script and music.
Compass aims to offer quirky, engaging theatre programming designed to provide arts enrichment and cultivate personal growth and character.
This take on the classic fairy tale features a bewitched Beast, played by Charlie Moreland, but also brave librarians, including Annie Gallaway as Beauty, enchanted books and rats, heroic park rangers, and an endangered species blue rose.
Tickets are $5 and are available at www.thehollandtheatre.org or at the door.
