Harrison Township Road 198 to close for bridge work
Crews from the Logan County Highway Department will repair a bridge on Township Road 198 between County Road 11 and Township Road 200 with a scheduled date of Monday, June 6.
The work is scheduled to be completed Thursday, June 16 and may require an overnight closure.
Scheduling is subject to weather conditions.
CSX to close U.S. 68, other roads
Several local roads tentatively will be closed from June 10 through 24 for a railroad resurfacing project, CSX officials report.
U.S. Route 68 at the Hopewell railroad crossing north of Bellefontaine will be closed and traffic will be detoured west along U.S. Route 33 and State Route 274 during the closure.
Other roads affected in Logan County are: Railroad Street in Rushsylvania, a private road, Township Road 57 and State Route 274 in Rushsylvania.
Township Road 217 and the West Mansfield Pike will also be closed in Hardin County.
Congressional candidate to address Democrats
The Logan County Democratic Party hosts Janet Garrett, candidate for U.S. Congress from the 4th District, for a spring dinner at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, at Café 212, 212 E. Columbus Ave.
The Oberlin Democrat and retired schoolteacher is looking to unseat incumbent Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Urbana, in the November general election.
Tickets cost $20 and 50/50 and raffle tickets will also be available.
Library hosts Comic Con
Knowlton Library hosts Comic Con from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 4, in the AcuSport Community Room where guests should attend dressed as their favorite characters.
The event includes games, crafts and door prizes.
Actors sought for ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’
Windmill Productions seeks aspiring actors and actresses for roles in the upcoming production of the Harper Lee classic To Kill a Mockingbird.
Auditions for the drama are set for 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, June 17, at the Holland Theatre with a call back date Saturday, June 18.
Roles include an approximately 9-year-old actress for the part of Scout and two boys, approximately 11 or 12 years old, for Jem and Dill. There are also nine adult male speaking roles and seven female roles along with numerous extras needed for various scenes in and outside the courtroom.
Participants should be prepared for an audition of up to 20 minutes, which will be focused on readings from the script. Additional information is available at the Holland Theatre website www.thehollandtheatre.org under the “Auditions/Workshops”link.
The show is directed by Forrest Amidon and Kris Swisher and will be presented Aug. 19, 20 and 21.
Events planned to benefit West Mansfield fireworks
Proceeds from a day-long event June 4 benefit the West Mansfield fireworks fund.
A car show in Veterans Park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. kicks off the day. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. The entry fee is $10.
The Taco Bout food truck provides food.
A pet parade begins at 5 p.m. in the village square. Registration gets under way at 4:30. The entry free is $5. A bake sale is conducted in conjunction with the parade.
A street dance on the village lawn is from 6 to 10 p.m. Ray Ray’s Pizza provides food.
Reverse raffle to benefit Belle Center fireworks
The Belle Center Fireworks Committee is conducting a reverse raffle to benefit the village’s annual fireworks production coordinated by the Belle Center Volunteer Fire Department.
Tickets are $100 each and include two dinners served at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 4, in the community building at the Hardin County Fairgrounds, 14134 County Road 140, Kenton. Doors open at 5:30.
The grand prize has been a value of $10,000 in the past. You need not be present to win.

Self-defense sessions offered Friday at Union Station
Union Station, 613 Hamilton St., offers a self-defense night from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 3.
Local business vendors will offer booths during the event, and self-defense presentations will take place from 6 to 6:30 p.m. and 6:30 to 7 p.m.

The DeGraff village-wide yard sale day is Saturday, June 4.
City set free yard sale dates
Bellefontaine administrators have designated each Saturday in June for its annual free yard sale dates.
Residents north of the center line of Columbus Avenue can set up yard sales June 4 and 11 without paying the $5 yard sale permit fee.
On June 18 and 25, residents living south of Columbus Avenue can have free yard sales.
