Lewis E. Simpson, 85, of Russells Point, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2018, at Heartland of Bellefontaine.
Lew was born Dec. 18, 1932, in McDonald Township, Hardin County, a son of the late Lewis and Dorothy Kennedy Simpson. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, LaDonna Strech; two sisters, Doris Odle and Charlene Guess; and two grandsons, Jeremy Woodruff and Lukas Cooper.
On Jan. 6, 1975, he married Wanda Booth Wickliff and she survives.
He is also survived by two sons, Michael (Genevieve) Simpson of Kenton and Jeff (Cherie) Cooper of Bellefontaine; two stepdaughters, Patti (Lynn) Fichtner of Columbus and Pam (Brett Pettiford) Wickliff of Shawnee, Lima; three grandsons, Jacob Cooper, Larry Woodruff and Lucain Woodruff; and several nieces and nephews.
Lew retired from ODNR after 28 years. He was a former chief of Washington Township Police and worked for the Logan County Sheriff’s Department. Lew was an Army veteran serving during the Korean War. He was a member of VFW Post 1080 in Bellefontaine, U.S. Deputy Sheriff’s Association and American Legion. He enjoyed taking bass fishing trips to Canada with his friends, RV and bass boat.
Per Mr. Simpson’s wishes, his body was cremated, and no public services will be observed. Shoffstall Funeral Home, Lakeview, handled arrangements.
