A flood that damaged Transportation for Logan County’s 315 W. Auburn Ave. offices July 13 appears to have been a result of a large downed tree in a nearby creek and debris which was swept into and clogged a downstream culvert.
Tonya Reed with RTC Industries said the nonprofit which runs the TLC is concerned that the flooding could occur again.
She asked the Bellefontaine City Council at Tuesday’s meeting what could be done to avoid it in the future.
Cleaning up the mess will cost around $40,000, she said, and that does not include repairs.
Service-Safety Director James Holycross said city leaders also were surprised by the flooding as the building is not in a flood plain.
“It’s our assessment that debris in the water way played a significant role in the backup,” Holycross said, specifying what they observed along the nearby creek. “It’s a good reminder for our citizens that when you’re cutting trees or brush and leave it by a waterway that this is the result.”
