Water rates are set to increase in Lakeview, effective Jan. 1. Village council approved in a regular meeting Monday the first reading of an ordinance that raises water rates each of the next three years, through 2021.
Beginning next calendar year, the commodity charge will be $3 for residents in the village per 1,000 gallons, according to the ordinance.
That rate will be $4.50 per 1,000 gallons outside the village.
In January 2020, the rate per 1,000 gallons is $3.37 inside the village, and $5.06 outside; and increases to $3.75 inside, and $5.62 outside the village beginning in 2021.
Rate increases come at the recommendation of Courtney & Associates, a consulting firm that village officials had commissioned to examine the utility rates.
“Based on the results of the study, Courtney & Associates has recommended that the village modify its water rates so that they more properly reflect the cost of providing water service and provide sufficient revenues to meet future expenses associated with operating and maintaining the village’s water system,” according to the ordinance.
