Calvary Christian’s girls basketball team is headed back to the Ohio Christian Schools Athletic Association Final Four after beating Dominion Academy 40-28 on Saturday. The Lady Spartans were able to avenge their first regular-season loss.
Calvary ended the first period with a 10-7 lead. Elisha Carter then scored all 11 points for Calvary in the second quarter to give the Spartans a 21-13 edge at halftime.
Both teams scored six points in the third quarter as Calvary held a 27-19 advantage.
In the final period, Calvary outpaced Dominion 13-6 to pull away for the 12-point win.
“Once we got the tournament bracket, we were thinking we would play Dominion for the chance to go to the Final Four,” said Calvary head coach Eli Carter. “Dominion is a great team, their overall record heading into this game was 18-4. Of course, they beat us in our first game of the season, so we had some extra motivation heading into this ball game. We played some great team basketball, every player who stepped onto the court played a significant role in pulling out this victory.
“This is our second consecutive year we are heading to the Final Four in Circleville. What an accomplishment for these seniors, they are leaving a great legacy on our basketball program.”
For Calvary, Carter led all scorers with 14 points, Ruth Boy added 12 and Hannah Marlow scored 8 points.
With the win, Calvary improves to 26-3 and will be back in action on Tuesday as they will play in the OVCC Conference Championship game before they head to Circleville to play in the OCSAA state semifinal game against Mansfield Christian.
In other recent action, Calvary beat Dayton Temple 37-17 in a OVCC semifinal game. The Spartans led 10-4 after one quarter and 19-10 at halftime.
Calvary held Dayton Temple to seven points in the second half to roll to the 20-point win.
For Calvary, Elisha Carter led all scorers with 18 point. She also had 8 rebounds. Marjorie Boy added eight points and Hannah Marlow had six points and 10 rebounds.
