Bellefontaine played toe-to-toe with visiting St. Marys the whole way Tuesday night, but the Chiefs came up on the short end of a 43-38 decision in a non-league girls basketball game.
The Chiefs drop to 5-5 on the season. The Roughriders improve to 7-2.
Bellefontaine led 8-7 after the opening eight minutes. St. Marys went ahead by one point (20-19) at halftime.
St. Marys maintained a one-point cushion (27-26) after three quarters and then outscored the Chiefs 16-12 in the fourth quarter to put the game away.
Tiffany Boop led the Chiefs with 15 points. Quinlan Zedeker also scored in double figures with 10 points, while Alexis Robinson added eight points.
In the junior varsity game, St. Marys won 57-18. Gabby Hoon led Bellefontaine with 10 points.
The Chiefs return to action Thursday at Lima Shawnee.
