West Liberty-Salem’s girls track and field team is currently second after the opening day of action at the Ohio Heritage Conference meet at Northeastern High School.
Mechanicsburg’s girls are in first after four events with 33 points, WL-Salem is second with 22 points, Northeastern is third with 17 points and Triad is fifth with 16 points.
The Indians are also leading the boys meet after three events with 21 points. The Jets are currently second with 14 points and the Tigers are close behind in third with 13 points. The Cardinals are 12th with six points.
The OHC finals resume at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
WL-Salem’s girls won two events Monday. The 3,200 relay team of Katie Hartsel, Kaylee Harrison, Jenna Magnuson and Leah Cole won an OHC title with a time of 10:53.4.
Janie Kopus also won an individual league title by taking first in the pole vault with a height of 8-0.
In other finals events, Magnuson placed fifth in the discus with a toss of 87-3.
For the Tiger boys, the 3,200 relay of Joey Adams, Zavier Esch, Isaac Smith and Mike Conley placed second (8:52.7), Brandon Wolfe took fourth in the long jump (19-5) and Christian Parker was sixth in the long jump (17-4 1/2).
