“My husband will love this!”
So exclaimed avid reader Deb Birt when she first learned about the new 24/7 pickup lockers at the Knowlton Library at 220 N. Main St., Bellefontaine.
For those who still prefer the feel of a book, these lockers open up access to romance and mystery, history and science even after library hours.
“It provides an opportunity for patrons who can’t get to the library when we’re open,” said Emily Watson, Knowlton Libraries patron services supervisor. “You can put your item on hold online or through our app (SEO Libraries) and pick it up when it’s ready (at your convenience).”
After reserving your item, select “Knowlton Lockers” as your pickup location, and you’ll receive a text or email notification when it’s ready. Then scan your card at the locker, which will check out the book, and a door will open.
The lockers were installed in November at the suggestion of library director Judy Goodrich, and purchased with money from the American Cares Act. According to Watson, many patrons were counting the days until the lockers finally became accessible in December.
The library has multiple lockers, which are easy to use and ADA accessible.
To use the library pickup locker, follow these eight steps:
• Reserve item online or using the library app (SEO Libraries).
• Select “Knowlton Lockers” as the pickup location.
• Wait to receive a text or email when item is ready.
At the locker:
• Scan your library card.
• Enter your PIN number. (A library staff member can find that if you don’t remember.)
• Select a receipt (print or email).
• Collect your item(s) from the automatically opened locker.
• Close the locker door.
