Karen S. Smith, 71, of Bellefontaine, passed away at 12:10 p.m. Saturday, July 21, 2018, at Logan Acres Care Center, Bellefontaine.
She was born in Urbana on Nov. 22, 1946, the daughter of the late Kenneth P. and Mildred King Ralston. She was also preceded in death by a nephew, Rob Hayden and close friends, Ed and Jackie Reames and Dick and Cindy Westerman.
On July 11, 1965, she married Michael L. Smith in the First United Methodist Church, Bellefontaine and he survives.
She is also survived by a daughter, Krista (John) Belser of Bellefontaine; a son, Ryan (Christine Cheney) Smith of Bellefontaine; four grandchildren, Tommy and Brett Belser and Robbie and Wyatt Smith; two sisters, Sandy Makemson of West Milton and Patti (Tom) Diener of Zanesfield; numerous nieces and nephews; and many close friends, including Bud and Mary Bailey, Randy and Ginny Myers and Pat Ortli, all of Bellefontaine; Teri Thomas of Columbus; Vicci Elder and Jenny Anderson, both of South Carolina; Laura Elder of Florida; and Carrie Mercer of Texas.
Karen was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Bellefontaine. She worked for Mary Rutan Hospital in medical records and prior to that, she worked as an in-home childcare provider. She cared for more than 50 children over the years from 1977 to 2008. She loved spending time with her family and friends, especially watching her grandsons at all their sporting events.
Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 30, at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 321 N. Main St.
