Jonathan M. Kreglow, 65, passed away July 19, 2021.
Beloved husband of Diane Kreglow (nee O’Dell) for 40 years. Loving father of Leanna and Matthew Kreglow of Medina. Dear son of Mary Kreglow (nee Roode) of Quincy, and the late Max Kreglow. Brother of Denise Bantz of Redkey, IN and Rebecca Emerine (John) of Chillicothe. Uncle of Erin Al-Nakeeb (Sadiq) and Lora Bruce. Great uncle of Haydunn, Jaffer, Malik and Rami.
As a youth, Jon participated in 4-H and showed steers for a number of years, and during summers he helped his father on the family farm planting crops and taking care of the livestock. In 1974, he graduated from Riverside High School, where he participated in many activities, played football until a major concussion sidelined him, and then played basketball, which he loved. During this time, he was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan, especially during the Big Red Machine years, and Johnny Bench was always his favorite baseball player.
Jon went on to study Agricultural Engineering at The Ohio State University and graduated in Dec. 1979. While working in the Ag Engineering Department after graduation, he started work on his Engineer In Training (EIT) certification and spent the summer working with a company approved by Ohio EPA to spread sewage sludge on cropland in the Grove City area.
He moved to Raleigh, NC in Sept. 1980 to work at NCSU on the National Water Quality Evaluation Project, and moved back to Ohio in 1984 when he achieved his career goal of working for the U.S.D.A.-Soil Conservation Service (now U.S.D.A.-NRCS) as an Agricultural/Civil Engineer. He worked in Athens, Ohio, as a trainee Civil Engineer in the Rural Abandoned Mine Program (RAMP) strip mine reclamation project office until 1987 when he moved to NRCS Area 2 Medina Office, starting as an Area Project Engineer. He became a licensed Professional Engineer in 1991. He was the Supervisory Civil Engineer (Area Engineer) covering Northeast Ohio for several years before his retirement at the end of 2011. He worked for the federal government for 32 years.
Jon loved fishing and woodworking, cooking Sunday dinners, and was above all devoted to his family. He enjoyed passing the time with friends discussing their shared interests.
All are welcome to join Jon’s graveside service on Saturday, August 7, at 1:30 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery, Quincy, and also the gathering of friends which will immediately follow at DeGraff Park, shelter house 1. Feel free to bring a lawn chair and prepared comments if you’d like to share a tale or two about Jon as we celebrate his life together. Jon wanted everyone to be comfortable, so dress is casual at his request.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to be deposited to a trust account for Leanna’s future care, or to your favorite charity. Online condolences may be made at www.jardinefh.com.
