John Dennis Albers, 55, of Muncie, Ind., passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018, at his residence.
He was born on August 6, 1963 in Hoxie, Kansas, the son of William N. and Delores M. Franklin Albers Sr., and graduated from Hoxie High School in 1981. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Emporia State University. On Oct. 19, 2007, in Sevierville, Tenn., he married Melinda J. “Mindy” Delaney. His father was a wheat farmer and John enjoyed farming with his Dad through college.
John was a brilliant mathematician and dedicated employee of Ball State University in Muncie, Ind., working in IT for the math department and as an adjunct professor. He was a former member of New Life Presbyterian Church in Yorktown, Ind., and currently was attending Bethel Church in Gaston, Ind.
He was a committed husband and loving father, attending all his children’s sporting events and helping his neighbors with anything they needed. John loved woodworking, metal working, tractors, animals and solving any math problem he could find, especially calculus.
He had a great sense of humor and was constantly joking with people. John also served as a volunteer firefighter in the Oklahoma and for Center Township in Indiana for 10 years.
Surviving are his wife of nearly 11 years, Melinda J. “Mindy” Albers of Muncie, Ind.; three children, James D. (fiancé, Amber Stewart) Delaney and Erin F. Albers, both of Muncie, Ind., and Grace E. Albers, U.S. Navy, Great Lakes, Ill.; two sisters, Marcia Bingham of Hoxie, Kan., and Kathleen Ford of Wichita, Kan.; his father- and mother-in-law, Lamar and Laura Delaney of Eaton; his grandmother-in-law, Reba Eileen Loveland of Cincinnati; numerous nieces and nephews; and many life-long friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, William N. Albers Jr.; and his first wife, Debrah K. Albers in 2005.
Funeral services are at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Mt. Pleasant Chapel, 7901 W. Isanogel Road, Muncie, Ind., where calling begins at 3 p.m. Pastor Bob O’Bannon officiates. Family and friends are invited to attend the burial at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Maple Grove Cemetery, 59000 Gilbert Road, North Lewisburg. Ohio.
