Eric K. Smith, 26, of 327 S. Miami St., Quincy, was charged with one count of forgery and three counts of receiving stolen property after corrections officers at the Logan County Jail found several stolen checks in his possession.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report Mr. Smith was being booked into the jail Tuesday on previously reported charges related to the theft of a wallet from a vehicle parked in the Quincy area. During the booking process, corrections officers located three stolen checks in his possession.
Corrections officers relayed the information to patrol deputies, who discovered that the checks had been stolen from a vehicle in Marion about two weeks ago. The Marion Police Department was contacted about the stolen checks.
The inmate was issued the additional charges.
No injuries reported in S.R. 508 crash
Ryan Turner, 27, of West Liberty, was cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead following a non-injury crash Wednesday morning.
Deputies report Matthew Goedde, 35, of West Liberty, exited his driveway at 2129 State Route 508 in a sport utility vehicle and turned eastbound onto S.R. 508. He was then struck from behind by a car operated by Mr. Turner.
Damage was moderate to the car and light to the SUV. Both drivers were wearing their seat belts.
