A resignation of a long-serving board member was approved Wednesday during a regular meeting of the Logan County Fair Board alongside a date a for a memorial tractor pull.
In an email to the board, Jim Staley submitted his resignation to the fair, effective Jan. 31 for personal reasons. Mr. Staley plans to retire soon from farming, and also intends to spend more time in Florida, according to board president Christie Barns
In his resignation letter, Mr. Staley also recommended a list of a potential successors to serve on the fair board, representing Harrison Township.
A Joshua Keith Memorial Tractor Pull is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday, June 25. A dirt drag event will be staged at about 4 p.m. the following Sunday, according to the fair board.
A portion of the proceeds from that memorial tractor pull will be used to distribute two $250 scholarships for local high school students in Joshua Keith’s name.
The board wanted to start with two smaller scholarships and try to grow them, as opposed to starting with larger sums and risk not being able to fund the totals.
The next regular fair board meeting is 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3.
