Steven L. Burk, 66, of 816 W. Sandusky Ave., Bellefontaine, who has been incarcerated in the Logan County Jail since Nov. 24, was charged Wednesday with felony counts of conveying drugs into a detention facility and possession of drugs.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report Mr. Burk had been granted a medical furlough Wednesday to attend a doctor’s appointment.
When he returned to the jail about 3:30 p.m., deputies conducted a search of his person and his wheelchair, and recovered 27 oxycodone pills in the wheelchair armrest.
Deputies also searched his jail cell, a special medical unit, and found four additional oxycodone pills.
He was issued the charges. In November, the defendant was charged with possession of heroin, having weapons under disability and drug trafficking.
Man injured after negligent discharge of firearm
Edward L. Cumberland, 44, of 450 Kristina Drive, Apt. 11F, Bellefontaine, was transported Saturday by medical helicopter to Riverside Methodist Hospitals in Columbus following an injury to his hand caused by a negligent discharge of a firearm.
Deputies responded about 4:30 p.m. to 5190 County Road 153, Zanesfield, where Mr. Cumberland and some of his friends reportedly had been shooting at targets.
Mr. Cumberland told deputies that he accidentally discharged his firearm, causing injury to his left hand.
1 adult, 4 teens charged after party
A Harrod man and four teens were issued various charges, including criminal trespass, Saturday following a party that was hosted at a manufactured home that was owned by a grandmother of two of the individuals.
Deputies received a report about 7:50 a.m. by the manager of the manufactured home park at 12086 Shannon Drive, Holiday Shores, Lakeview, about several suspicious vehicles that were parked by Lot 64. She had contacted the owner of Lot 64 by phone, who said no one should be there.
Deputies then observed two teenage girls, Kennedy A. Fraunfelter, 16, of Harrod, and Alicia C. Lawrence, 17, of Lima, leaving the manufactured home.
Inside the residence, they found three male subjects, David L. Brown, 24, of Harrod; James L. Hunt, 17, of Ada; and Christian A. Burden, 17, of Waynesfield. Deputies also observed an odor of burnt marijuana and found drug paraphernalia.
Mr. Brown was charged with four counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, along with single counts of criminal trespass, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was lodged in the jail.
Both James and Christian were charged with criminal trespass, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia and were lodged in the Logan County Juvenile Detention Center. Both Kennedy and Alicia were issued summonses for the same charges.
