Cody A. Maynard, 24, of 555 Newell St., Apt. 33, was arrested Saturday after a chase on south Main Street around 1:30 a.m.
He was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and cited for reckless operation, failure to comply, speeding, having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, driving under suspension, expired registration and driving without headlights on.
An officer of the Bellefontaine Police Department was northbound on patrol in the 1100 block when he observed the suspect southbound at 44 mph. The officer turned and had to accelerate to 80 mph in an effort to catch up with the suspect who sped up.
He also observed the vehicle’s lights were turned off in an effort to avoid detection.
By the 1700 block, the Maynard car pulled into a parking lot with heavy smoke rolling from the exhaust.
An open can of beer was found in the car.
He refused to take any field sobriety tests or provide a breathalyzer sample.
He was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
• Keith Brantley, 30, of Bellefontaine, was charged with consuming alcohol in a motor vehicle and arrested on a warrant after a 2:45 a.m. traffic stop Sunday at Gunntown and Ludlow roads.

A Mechanicsburg man was arrested Saturday for public intoxication and assault while a Bellefontaine woman was charged with public intoxication.
Timothy Runyon, 46, was lodged in jail after he allegedly choked Kara R. Anderson, 33, when they met at Speedy Mart, 511 S. Main St., around 7:40 p.m. She had visible injuries to her neck.
Mr. Runyon and other witnesses told police she took the keys from his car and refused to return the keys. He denied choking her.
Both had been drinking alcohol, officers report.
Text adds to inmate’s woes
Brandon P. Skaggs, 26, of 309 S. Carlisle St., DeGraff, was charged Sunday with menacing. He sent a text message to the cellular phone of his ex-girlfriend, Cindy Harrod, threatening to beat Stephen Hill, her boyfriend.
The suspect was already in jail serving a sentence.
Belligerent patient arrested

Charles R. South, 55, at large, was arrested Friday for resisting arrest and persistent disorderly conduct.
Around 9:40 p.m., he was in an emergency room at Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of chest pain. Staff reported his blood alcohol content level was over 0.34 and he was belligerent to staff and uncooperative.
He struggled with police when they attempted to handcuff him and remove him from the hospital. He was taken to jail and placed in a restraint chair.

Officers served warrants and summonses to:
• Ashley M. Carnes, 30, of 10502 Township Road 157, East Liberty: failure to appear; and
• Larry J. Counts, 42, at large: a Union County warrant for failure to appear and a probation violation from Florida on an armed robbery conviction.
