Major roof repairs to take shape at ILHS, ILMS
The Indian Lake Board of Education increased pay for substitutes serving the district and made plans for major roof repairs during the August regular meeting Monday night.
The board conducted their meeting prior to the All-District Open House event.
Board members voted to hike the pay for substitute teachers, bus aides, secretaries, custodians, grounds keepers, food service staff, educational assistants and bus drivers.
“It’s getting more and more difficult to get substitutes in our district, so we increased those rates to be more competitive in the county to make sure we continue to get good quality substitutes,” Superintendent Rob Underwood said.
Substitute teacher pay was set at $105 per day, or $52,50 per half day, and substitute custodian pay and substitute grounds keeper pay is $14 per hour and $15 per hour, respectively. Substitute bus drivers’ route rate is $18 per hour, and substitute trip rate is $14 per hour.
Substitute secretary, bus aide, food service and educational assistant rates are $11 per hour.
The board also approved a project to repair and replace the EIFS, or stucco areas, of the high school and middle school and parts of the adjacent roofs that are failing. Members awarded a contract to N.R. Lee Restoration Ltd. for the project.
“We’ve had leaks in our high school roof for numerous years and thankfully, some of the Covid-relief money is helping us to offset those costs so that we can make those repairs that are drastically needed,” Underwood explained.
The project is expected to take six to eight months and cost approximately $2.4 million.
Today begins the first day of classes at Indian Lake Schools for 2021-22.
