Logan County EMA officials urge motorists to use caution on potentially icy roads
Precipitation fell late Tuesday in the form of freezing drizzle, and more winter weather is expected throughout today, as Logan County EMA officials urge motorists to exercise extreme caution while on the roadway.
“Winter weather is on its way back — our current rain is going to transition to freezing rain, sleet and snow,” according to an EMA notice published Tuesday. “This will make for slippery roads as the temperatures drop below freezing.”
Another wave of precipitation is forecast to pass through the area today, bringing with it a wintry mix of sleet, snow and ice that has the potential to impact travel, especially for Thursday’s commute, according to the National Weather Service.
Temperatures are expected hold steady this afternoon in the low 30s before dropping into the mid 20s overnight. That drop in temperature combined with a 90 percent chance of freezing rain has some forecasters concerned about the possibility of icy conditions overnight and into Thursday.
“Drive carefully,” the EMA cautions, “(and) remember bridges and overpasses will get slick before the rest of the road surface.
“Plan ahead — leave early, take a charged cell phone and tell someone your travel route.”
