Jonas C. Stokes, 34, of Urbana, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs related to a crash early Sunday morning, which caused damage to four parked vehicles at a residence.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office and an officer of the West Liberty Police Department responded about 4:30 a.m. to 3583 County Road 11, Bellefontaine, on a report of a man knocking on the residence, stating that he had crashed into the woods and to “call the police.”
Deputies said Stokes was operating an eastbound 2013 Buick Verano when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road and went off the east side of the road into the 3583 C.R. 11 residential driveway.
His vehicle struck a 2012 Chevrolet Impala and a 1997 Chevrolet Camaro owned by Billy Gillenwater.
The Impala then was pushed into the garage, causing damage to a 2012 Dodge Challenger owned by Michael Gillenwater.
The Camaro was pushed into a 2002 Chevrolet owned by Billy Gillenwater.
Damage was heavy to Stokes’ vehicle, along with the Impala and the Camaro. Damage was light to the other two vehicles.
The West Liberty officer had detained Stokes when deputies arrived. The officer said the defendant would not speak to him or answer questions.
Stokes also would not advise deputies whether he was injured, but began to make incoherent statements and Bellefontaine EMS was requested at the scene.
EMS personnel checked the defendant and deputies stated Stokes’ eyes were dilated. He was placed under arrest and was transported to the Logan County Jail.
The defendant used derogatory language toward deputies and corrections officers at the jail. He was placed in the restraint chair after he did not follow corrections officers’ commands.
Stokes also refused to take a blood alcohol content breath test. He was issued citations for operating a vehicle under a court suspension for OVI and failure to control.
• Anne N. Dingey, 42, of 416 County Road 142, West Mansfield, was charged with OVI related to a crash Friday evening on County Road 2.
Deputies report she was operating an eastbound 2004 Pontiac Aztek about 11:10 p.m. in the 10000 block of C.R. 2 when she traveled left of center and off the left side of the road. She then struck a guardrail and traveled down an embankment into a creek bed.
Dingey was checked on the scene by Perry Township EMS and was cleared medically.
While speaking to deputies, they observed that she had slurred speech and detected an odor of alcohol on her person. She also was unsteady on her feet, deputies noted.
Dingey admitted to drinking several alcoholic beverages that evening. She refused to submit to field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest. The defendant also did not submit to a breath test and was released to a sober party.
She also was cited for failure to control.
Driver transported from head-on crash
Daniel M. Hall, 59, of Bellefontaine, was transported by Perry Township EMS to Lima Memorial Hospital for treatment of possible injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon.
Deputies report Hall was operating a southbound 2015 Kia Sorento on County Road 144 about 3:35 p.m. and attempted to make a left turn onto State Route 347. He reportedly failed to yield to a northbound 2011 Dodge Ram operated by Landon M. Griffin, 20, of Huntsville, resulting in a head-on collision.
Griffin did not report any injuries. Both drivers were wearing their seat belts.
Hall was cited for failure to yield. Damage was heavy to both vehicles, which were towed from the scene.
