Joshua A. Mears, 22, of 10201 County Road 15, Zanesfield, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs related to a non-injury crash Friday evening.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded about 10:40 p.m. to the area of 12584 County Road 153, with the homeowner reporting a vehicle had crashed into his yard. He also said the driver of the vehicle had come onto the porch area and seemed to be slurring his words.
Mears reportedly had been operating a northbound 1999 Ford F-150 on C.R. 153 when he failed to stop at the posted stop sign and drove across the T-intersection with Township Road 277 and into the yard, becoming stuck between a set of trees.
When deputies arrived, they said Mears admitted to drinking four to five beers that evening. They observed that he displayed signs of intoxication, and he refused to submit to field sobriety testing at the scene.
Deputies also observed open containers of alcohol in his vehicle. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Bellefontaine Police Department for a breath test. He received a result of 0.236 blood alcohol content. He was released to a sober party, and also was cited for failure to control
Damage was light to Mears’ pickup, which was towed from the scene.
Man lodged for domestic violence
Mark D. Rice, 57, of 12030 Holly Drive, Lakeview, was charged with domestic violence related to an incident Saturday evening.
Deputies responded to his address about 8:40 p.m. on a report of a domestic dispute.
Rice reported to deputies that he and his live-in girlfriend had been arguing that day after he had helped an elderly neighbor with items around her house. He said the argument began because his girlfriend does not like their neighbor and she played for him a voicemail where the neighbor woman was “insulting her.”
Rice told deputies that his girlfriend was being verbally abusive toward him during the argument.
His girlfriend told deputies that after she played the voicemail for Rice, he allegedly struck her. Deputies observed a small scratch below her left eye and a scratch in the corner of her mouth. She told deputies she had been drinking that evening.
Rice denied striking her, and was placed under arrest and lodged in the Logan County Jail.
