Students gave dozens of local veterans in attendance a standing ovation and came forward at the end to personally thank them for their military service to the country.
The Future Career and Community Leaders of America group at ILHS hosts the event yearly. Members prepared and served veterans a breakfast in the ILHS auxiliary gym, then led them to the auditorium for an allschool program.
Guest speakers included Vietnam Air Force veteran Jim Moorman, who gave students his take on the recent NFL protests.
“I brought up about the oath of office that veterans take and how much that means to veterans as we go forward in our lives. I don’t agree with the protests about kneeling or sitting during the National Anthem, but I would defend that practice to the death because it’s that important. If we lose our freedoms, we lose everything.”
Logan County Vets to DC President Scott Stewart told the crowd that knowing veterans has made him a better person and society should not wait until our soldiers have passed before we honor them.
