Several young men from Indian Lake High School participated in an eight-day hands-on experience in the operation of the democratic form of government, the organization of political parties, and the relationship of one to the other in shaping Ohio government
The ILHS delegates selected for Buckeye Boys State at the Miami University campus this month included: Dylan Carter, son of Paul Carter and Amy Leach of Belle Center; Trenton Fulkerson, son of Andy and Amanda Fulkerson of Huntsville; Lane McPherson, son of Tim and Jana McPherson of Huntsville; Benjamin Oldiges, son of Matt and Krista Oldiges of Huntsville; and Carson Shepherd, son of Dean and Heather Shepherd of Lakeview.
Buckeye Boys’ State is sponsored by the Huntsville American Legion Post 381. It is locally sponsored by the following donors: Robert Coffman, All Around Accounting, AG Boogher & Son, Spend-A-Day Marina, Woody’s, Buds Marine, Ohio Ready Mix and John Tuttle.
Participants must meet several qualifications. Candidates must be juniors in high school, interested in government and current events, and have an above average scholastic standing. The young men must also demonstrate high moral character, possess strong leadership skills, and have a desire for learning.
The purpose of Buckeye Boys’ State is to provide experience in the operation of the democratic form of government, the organization of political parties, and the relationship of one to the other in shaping Ohio government. At Buckeye Boys’ State, young men learn about city, county, and state government through a non-partisan objective education approach.
