Despite the challenges of this school year, many little Lakers are living in the Laker Zone.
ILES conducted its first Laker Zone Awards recently, but there was no assembly. Instead Co-Principals Jeff Reprogle and Molly Hall visited each classroom to hand out shirts to Laker Zone winners and encourage the great behavior so far.
The Laker Zone is a long-time grant program that encourages students to help others, resist bullying and be hard workers in the classroom. One person per class was awarded a Laker Zone shirt for being “in the zone” for the first nine weeks.
Students receiving T-shirts include: kindergartners Finley Taylor, Avery Gietzen, Leah Iams, Zachary Harvey, Maylan Blackburn and Keaton Vasquez; first-graders Vayda Ruth, Narayan Adkins, Kenleigh Vaughan, Hayden Heppard, Kynlee Weiner and Colin Rice; second-graders Haygin Clem, Brantley Schneider, Charlie Varian, Daniel Wagler, Ian Swarz and Azlin Grube; third-graders Carsyn Warnecke, Tallon Seeley, Alexandria Everhart, Lucy Kirkpatrick, Abby Arnett and Karmella Hillery; fourth-graders Olivia Ross, Joslynn Taylor, Allison Overmyer, Bella Michael, Reid Roberts, Brysin Kuhlenbeck and Quincey Folk; and bus honorees Mary Baughman, Gabriel Plum, Levi Smith, Kyren Monterosa and Parker Robinson.
In addition, staff members handed out more than 1,200 Laker Zone cards in the first nine weeks to students who were ”caught” in the Laker Zone. Those names were drawn to win a new bicycle. Those students winning bicycles were second-grader Braelynn McComas and fourth-grader Owen Slagle.
